Troubleshooting Your AC Unit

If your AC unit is not working, there are a few things you can check before calling for service:

Power Supply:
- Ensure that the AC unit is plugged in and the power switch is turned on.
- Check the circuit breakers or fuses to see if they need to be reset or replaced.
Thermostat Settings:
- Make sure the thermostat is set to "cool" mode.
- Adjust the temperature down by at least five degrees to see if the unit turns on.
Air Filter:
- Check the air filter and replace or clean it if it is dirty. A clogged filter can restrict airflow and reduce efficiency.
Vents and Registers:
- Ensure that all vents and registers are open and not blocked by furniture or other objects.
Condenser Unit:
- Check the outdoor condenser unit for any obstructions such as leaves, dirt, or debris. Clean around the unit to ensure proper airflow.
Drain Line:
- Inspect the drain line for clogs. A blocked drain line can cause water to back up into the unit, triggering a shutoff.
Refrigerant Levels:
- Low refrigerant levels can prevent your AC from cooling effectively. While this typically requires a professional, you can check for signs of a refrigerant leak, such as ice buildup on the unit.
Thermostat Batteries:
- If your thermostat runs on batteries, make sure they are still functional. Replace them if necessary.

By checking these common issues, you may be able to resolve the problem and get your AC unit running again. If the problem persists, don't hesitate to contact a professional for assistance.
